Become a volunteer like Amy and help change lives
In this issue, we’re celebrating one of our brilliant volunteers, Amy, who generously gives her time to our Communications and Media Team.
‘As a child, my council house was truly a home. A place of stability and joy. But if my mother were in the same situation as she was 30 years ago now, we could very easily have been placed in temporary accommodation.’
Amy’s personal experience with housing insecurity led her to Shelter Scotland.
‘I volunteered with Shelter Scotland after I believed my housing rights were breached. I found Shelter Scotland’s online advice an invaluable resource. It led to me having the confidence to pursue my case with the Housing Tribunal – and win.'
‘When I saw Shelter Scotland had a voluntary opening in their communications team, I knew this would be a great fit. I have a degree in English and am passionate about equality. I have learnt a huge amount about housing and been involved in stunts to publicise and increase awareness of the often incomprehensible circumstances people find themselves in.
To be able to take some time to help the fight towards Shelter Scotland’s end goal is a privilege.
We’d like to say a huge THANK YOU to Amy and all our amazing volunteers.
