How to plan a successful fundraising event
Planning your event
Set a date
Is your event on a weekday evening, a weekend or during school holidays? Make sure your date does not clash with any important occasions.
Get help from your friends
Don’t try to do everything yourself. Ask your friends, family, and colleagues to help you organise and spread the word. Make a list of tasks and decide who’s doing what.
Name the place
If you need a venue, try to book it well in advance. Make sure it's accessible and has a place to make drinks. Check if you need a licence to hold an event there.
Advertise locally
Put up posters in your local community posters to advertise your event.
Safety first
Make sure you have a first aid kit. If you’re selling or providing food and drink, check for potential allergens so you can alert people.
Use Etsy and eBay
JustGiving
Create a JustGiving page. Write your story and tell people why you think fighting for home is important. Set a target, and don’t be afraid to increase it to get more donations. Post regular updates and share them on social media and by email.
Gift Aid
If people who donate to you are UK taxpayers, ask them to sign up for Gift Aid.
This means we can claim an extra 25p for every £1 you raise, so more money from your donations at no extra cost to you.
How to pay in your fundraising money
Send by cheque
Make cheques out to ‘Shelter Scotland’ and send them to: Community Fundraising Team, Shelter Scotland, 6 South Charlotte Street, Edinburgh, EH2 4AW
Please include any original sponsorship forms, so we can claim Gift Aid on your donations at no extra cost to your sponsors.
Please also include your name, address, and postcode with some details of your event, so we can process your donation correctly and say thanks.
Pay by bank transfer
