Get homeless help from Edinburgh Council

Contact the council and tell them you’re making a homeless application. They must help if you’re homeless or about to become homeless.

You’ll get somewhere to stay straight away if you need it.

How to make a homeless application in Edinburgh

Call or go to an office as early in the day as possible. 

If you call but you cannot get through, go in person as soon as you can.

By phone

Monday to Thursday: 8:30am to 5pm
Friday: 8:30am to 3:40pm

Evenings, overnight and weekends

Go to The Access Place if you have support needs, including mental health issues.

Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: 9am to 5pm
Tuesday: 10am to 5pm
Friday: 9am to 4pm
It is closed for lunch each day between 1pm and 2pm

  1. Accept your homeless application and interview you about your situation

  2. Give you temporary accommodation if you need it

  3. Give you a written decision about your application
