Who this webinar is for

You do not need any prior knowledge of homelessness applications for this webinar.

It is suitable if you are new to a role as an adviser or work for a local authority in Scotland in housing or homelessness. It is also suitable if you support people who are at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.

  • how to support someone through a homelessness application

  • who qualifies as homeless

  • what legal duties local authorities have

  • the rights of applicants

  • how to handle complex or repeat cases

  • how to advocate effectively for those in need

What you will learn

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • explain how to make a homelessness application

  • identify who is eligible to apply under Scottish law

  • describe the local authority’s duty to accept and assess applications

  • define what ‘homeless’ means under the Housing (Scotland) Act 1987

  • recognise the threshold for accepting applications and how to manage repeat cases

  • understand the right to temporary accommodation while enquiries are ongoing
