Taking your landlord to the housing tribunal

Landlords and letting agencies have legal duties. These include responsibilities to do repairs and protect your deposit.

If your landlord or letting agent breaks the rules, you can take them to the housing tribunal. Its full name is the First-tier Tribunal for Scotland (Housing and Property Chamber).

The tribunal is less formal than a court. If they accept your application, you’ll present your case at a hearing.

The tribunal can force your landlord to fix the problem and sometimes pay you compensation.
