Shelter Scotland welcomes the on-going work by the Scottish Government to put in place legislation to protect people from the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic. However, if we are to prevent a spike in evictions when the current emergency measures are lifted, tenants must continue to be supported, to prevent a sharp increase in homelessness.

Public bodies and homelessness prevention: working towards a prevention duty

The Ending Homelessness Together Action Plan sets out the intention of Scottish Government and COSLA to ‘work with public bodies, housing providers and other partners to develop a new duty on local authorities, wider public bodies and delivery partners for the prevention of homelessness’. This research identifies what introducing homeless prevention legislation would be like for a broad range of people that would be impacted, exploring what would need to be done to change culture and practice.
