Succession to a short assured tenancy

Succession is the legal process whereby property is passed automatically by law from one person to another on the death of the first person. A tenancy is a right in property and so can also pass on someone's death.

The right to succeed to a short assured tenancy is much the same as the right to succeed to an assured tenancy, as detailed in the page on succession in the assured tenancies section. The successor would inherit a private residential tenancy.

For more information, please see the section on succession.
