The UK Border Agency is the Home Office department responsible for handling asylum applications and providing destitute asylum seekers with accommodation and financial contributions sufficient to meet their essential living needs.

Financial support for asylum seekers
All asylum seekers who applied for asylum on or after 3 April 2000, whether at the port of entry or in-country, are supported by the UK Border Agency, provided they meet certain eligibility criteria. [1] For further information, please see the page on eligibility criteria.
Individuals who applied for asylum before 3 April 2000 may also be eligible for support from the UK Border Agency in certain circumstances.
